About Us |
Muntjac Press evolved out of prose salon held within the walls of Philip Weaver’s seventeenth century panelled room above Ledbury’s High Street. Many were invited, few attended. This is attributed to the marginal social skills of the Muntjacians. The conceits projectised and published (or forthcoming) by the Muntjacians are based on historical fact and hearsay. Most are Herefordshire centric. It is a lovely wobbly part of the planet steeped in surprises.
Guy Malkerson is the name of that intersection of experiences that does most of the writing for Muntjac. Recent work includes the Herefordshire Kalender and the historical monologues for the Art Council of England funded travelling show Art Cases in collaboration with artist Jeanette McCulloch. Guy edited two small press magazines in California, the Drawing Board based in San Francisco and the Chronicles of Zen Wind in Sonoma. His short stories and articles have appeared on both sides of the Atlantic in diverse publications. He’s a Subterranean Records recording artist, having played with the Undead. Following that he was part of the vibrant West Coast post punk music scene in a number of bands including the Ashes of September and the Blue Blue Morning.
Since graduating from Herefordshire College of Art and Design in 1987 Julie Louise Jones has been practicing as a professional artist. Her work has been exhibited throughout the UK from London to Ledbury. She is endlessly inspired and influenced by innumerable sources including children’s books, folk tales, Victorian cookery books and the beautiful county of Herefordshire. Currently she is working on a children’s storybook entitled ‘The Ticket’ to be published by Muntjac Press in 2008. The cake below is a yummy example of her work...
